Rosa Doherty is Breaking Her Silence

Rosa Doherty, Shannen’s mother, is breaking her silence on her daughter’s death. “She is my beautiful girl and my heart,” she told People. “Our family wants to thank everyone who has shown love and support for our Shannen throughout her life. We are truly appreciative.”

In 2017, after being diagnosed in 2015, Shannen went into remission. However, the cancer came back in 2020. She then shared in 2023 that the cancer had spread to her bones and her brain. Shannen Doherty sadly passed away after a long and good fight.

Born in Tennessee, one of Shannen’s earliest television roles was playing Jenny Wilder on Little House on the Prairie at age 11. Her most famous role was playing Brenda Walsh on Beverly Hills 90210, and later, Prue Halliwell in the TV show Charmed. She has created many fans over the years, and many have felt her loss deeply.

Shannen Came From a Determined Woman

Shannen talked about her mom, Rosa, in a 2023 interview with People. “I come from a woman who was determined,” the actor said. “She impressed that upon me as a very young child like, ‘You don’t give up. You just have to work hard at it.’ ”

And that she did, from her acting career to her fight against cancer. She was always a strong fighter and never gave up.

As her cancer progressed, she couldn’t help but think about her mom. Last April, she talked on her own podcast, Let’s Be Clear, about what would happen after losing her fight against breast cancer. “Because it's going to be so hard on her, I want other things to be a lot easier,” the actress said. "I don't want her to have a bunch of stuff to deal with. I don't want her to have four storage units filled with furniture.”

She then went on to say, "I'm not done with living. I'm not done with loving. I'm not done with creating. I'm not done with hopefully changing things for the better, I'm just not - I'm not done.”
